शैलपुत्री

1. She, whose nature is bliss, profound, immense, and glorious, finds Her own virtue stifled, intellect dulled, and wisdom silenced like a stone. She who, as the Mother of the worlds, was born from the mountain, source of concentrated joy, that Durga, Śailaputrī, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

2. Having obtained a human birth, esteemed and proper, without seeking union with Brahman, those who turn away from the path to Brahman-bliss and delight in virtuous celibacy, She who protects them by bestowing the power of asceticism, that Durga, Śrī Brahmacāryeśvarī, whose feet are placed upon me.

3. She who brings complete joy to the path of life for all beings, by whom the sorrows of body and mind are dissolved, and life is made full, by whose compassionate glance liberation blossoms forth, that Durga, Śrī Chandraghaṇṭā, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

4. She who constantly and causelessly creates both desired and undesired circumstances, I take refuge in Her to avert sins from all people in all lands. To Her, the Primal One, I offer prayers for the fulfillment of desires born of my own intelligence, Kūṣmāṇḍā, that Durga, the Supreme Sovereign, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

5. From Skanda, the heavens advance, and from his mother's womb, the earth and the rising sprouts; from Skanda comes all life, the multitude of cultivated and uncultivated herbs. She who, as the Mother of all, pervades Skanda with Her own primordial nature, that Durga, Skandamātā, Mother of Skanda, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

6. Even a particle of whose resolve accumulates ever-increasing merit, by which a person performs acts of piety and benevolence, transcending violence, attaining a gentle disposition, a boon of pure wisdom, the fruit of austerity, that Durga, Kātyāyanī, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

7. She who equally enlivens all beings with the process of nightly sleep, in whom Lord Madhuhā sleeps at the end of the aeon, overcome by Her sleep, from whose darkness, intense and powerful, this unborn universe arose, that Durga, Śrī Kālarātrī, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

8. Gaurī, whose face expresses gentle and virtuous qualities, the abode of modesty and discernment, whose deer-like eyes are captivating with a great sense of shame, She who bestows auspiciousness, beauty, and beloved qualities when remembered, that Durga, Mahāgaurī, the virtuous one, whose greatness is established in me, I worship.

9. He who is virtuous, tasting the sweetness of honey flowing from Her lotus feet, undertakes many good works, filled with resolute desires, and perfectly accomplishes those begun with zeal by Her power, that Durga, Śrī Siddhidātrī, whose feet are placed upon me, I worship.

10. She, the Mother, who constantly grants the desires of good people who serve Her feet, She, the Goddess, who delivers those who take refuge in Her from hosts of terrible sufferings, in whose blissful, conscious, and joyous self this excellent hymn is recited, I worship that ever-new form of the Goddess Durgā.
